Development of ecological production processes and new high-quality products through research and development activities KK.01.2.1.02.0039

FEROPLAST, in partnership with the University of Rijeka – Faculty of Engineering, is implementing the project 'Development of Ecological Production Processes and New High-Quality Products through Research and Development Activities.' The purpose of the project is to increase the competitiveness of production in Croatia by applying advanced technologies, R&D activities, and establishing high standards of ecological production suitability. The project aims to improve the production process in order to achieve the following goals focused on ecological sustainability: Extend the product lifespan by 20% by discovering a new algorithm that enables the prediction of product durability based on input parameters. Reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions in the production process by 25% through the invention of new designs that will increase process efficiency. Reduce water consumption in the production process by 95% and minimize wastewater production to only 5% by developing new production technology. Strengthen collaboration with scientific research institutions and enhance our own capacities in scientific and research activities and projects.

Expected Research Results of the Project

  • Algorithm for Weld Quality and Corrosion Resistance Durability: A mechanism for visual weld detection and classification, along with a mechanism for determining corrosion resistance durability for each classified weld type. Corrosion resistance durability prediction will be based on weld appearance with a constant variable of surface protection.
  • Confirmed Concept for Eliminating Wire Trimming on Wire-Making Machines: This concept directly reduces material consumption and enhances corrosion resistance durability. Intellectual property registration, and potentially a patent, is expected.
  • Confirmed Concept for Converting a Single-Layer Coating Line into a Double-Layer Powder Coating Line: This aims to drastically enhance corrosion protection through powder coating technology, with potential intellectual property registration.
  • Achievement of Corrosion Resistance Durability: Increasing product durability from 500 to 600 hours under ISO 9227 or ISO 6270 standards by optimizing all parameters in both processes (electro-resistance welding and electrostatic plastic coating). This equates to a 20% improvement in corrosion resistance.
  • Development of New Hanger Designs: A new hanger construction (with patent registration) and two new hanger models (two industrial design registrations) will enhance corrosion resistance durability and production efficiency.
  • Confirmed Concept for Recycling Process Water: Process water is returned without negative impacts on corrosion protection quality, with potential intellectual property registration.

The end-users of the project's results are FEROPLAST d.o.o.’s clients, who will benefit from higher-quality, longer-lasting products, indirectly supporting the sustainability of their operations.

Target Markets:
FEROPLAST d.o.o. targets both domestic and international markets, with the European Union market being the primary focus. The wire product industry is experiencing growth due to increased demand driven by general economic recovery. However, the future emphasis will shift from product cost—given the technology's availability—to quality and added value, such as environmentally friendly production processes. FEROPLAST d.o.o. will focus on customers who recognize these two characteristics as comparative advantages, guaranteeing reliability, durability, and stability in business operations.

Total Project Value

The total value of the project is 9,533,334.86 HRK, of which the total eligible costs amount to 6,140,979.73 HRK, with EU co-financing of 4,579,587.00 HRK.
